English was not my first language. For the first year after we moved I spoke almost not at all — at school I was the silent kid, at home we kept Telugu running in the kitchen. The strangest thing about doing a podcast now is how much I think about that year. About what voice felt like before it had words.
Almost every episode I record, I notice the same thing: the most useful part of a conversation is not the answer. It is the moment before. The pause where someone decides whether to be honest. That is the part I am trying to leave in.
